Learning at Kelvedon St Mary's
‘The Learning Model’ (Sherrington and Caviglioli 2021)
Learning is our core business at Kelvedon St Mary’s and therefore it is vital that we have a secure understanding of the learning process and the implications for teaching, including curriculum and assessment design.
At Kelvedon St Mary’s the diagram above represents how we understand the learning process to take place.
We enable the learning process at Kelvedon St Mary's by:
Establishing positive relationships, habits for learning and enabling environments that encourage thinking and concentration.
Increasing children’s depth and breadth of knowledge by presenting new information in small steps and linking it to prior experiences and knowledge.
Constructing our curriculum and teaching habits to promote deliberate practice and retrieval so that more information is known and remembered.
Over time, this process enables our pupils to develop rich schemas as they select, organise and integrate new information with existing knowledge.
Learning at Kelvedon St Mary’s is designed to be remembered and not merely encountered!
