At Kelvedon St Mary's, we believe that caring for God's creation is everyone's responsibility.
Our Sustainability Council is a group of pupils who are passionate about protecting the environment and helping our school community make thoughtful choices about the world around us. They encourage us to notice the beauty of creation, appreciate the resources we have and consider how our actions can make a positive difference for future generations.
"We can't do everything on our own, but if everyone makes one small change, together we can make a big difference."
– Sustainability Council member
Sustainability Council members play an active role in school life by:
developing ideas to help our school become more sustainable;
celebrating environmental events such as World Ocean Day;
supporting litter-picking around the school grounds and local community;
promoting recycling and encouraging everyone to reduce waste;
helping to develop and review our Climate Action Plan;
raising awareness of environmental issues through assemblies, campaigns and whole-school initiatives such as Walking Wednesdays.
Our Sustainability Council encourages us to think beyond ourselves and consider how our everyday choices affect other people, our local community and the wider world. Through their work, children develop leadership skills, learn about global responsibility and discover that even small actions can have a lasting impact.
As part of our vision, we believe caring for the environment is an expression of our values of Kindness, Honesty and Respect. We are showing respect for the world we have been entrusted with and for the people who share it with us.
Being a member of Sustainability Council is an opportunity to listen to the ideas of others, lead positive change and inspire our whole school community to take action. Members help us to notice how we can care more thoughtfully for our environment and encourage everyone to play their part.
Through Sustainability Council, our children live out our vision:
Together we inspire possibilities.
Together we share joy.
Together we belong.
By working together to care for our world, they help create a school community that values responsibility, hope and a shared commitment to the future.
